In order to appraise the security challenges in northeastern Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari last week embarked on a one-day visit to Borno State, the epicenter of an insurgency and terrorist attacks in the country.
During his visit, the president met with troops of Operation Hadin Kai at Maimalari Cantonment in Maiduguri, the state capital, where he assured them of government’s support and sufficient military equipment to end the insurgency.
According to Borno State governor, Babagana Zulum, Buhari’s visit served as a morale booster for the troops who have been engaged in a battle against Boko Haram, ISWAP and other terrorist groups for well over a decade.
Patrick Agbambu, President/CEO of Security Watch Africa Initiatives, dissects the visit and its likelihood of ending the war.
